Day 21 of the 30 in 30. This is a painting inspired by a pic I took while visiting Fort Adams in Newport, RI. This is one of the newer tall ships, named after a famous Commodore that was actually from Newport. I did a little research and Oliver Percy was actually a very accomplished Naval Commander, sadly dying at the young age of 34. He was actually buried in Spain, but was reinterred back to Newport. He had quite a career, in his short life, too much to mention here, but if you are interested, please click on link to visit Wikipedia to read more.
I think he would be proud to have such a beautiful ship named in his honor.
Of course the first thing that attracted me to paint this was that glorious flag floating in the wind.
Hope you like it too!
