Day 30- Prince Philip Calling

Day 30 of the 30 in 30. A history lesson and a painting…… This was inspired by a pic I saw on Instagram of the Hong Kong Disneyland castle.  I loved it nestled in the hills.  So I started to paint it just like that, with the sidewalk to the theme park.  Then I did not like how the wall looked, and that got me thinking.  About how much I love Prince Philip.

It goes back to when I was little and watched Sleeping Beauty for the first time.  This was before VCR’s and DVD’s.  When you saw a movie once in the theatre, and that was it.  Either you went to see it again at the theatre or you were lucky to catch it on TV one day.  There were no movie libraries like we have at home now.  Anyway, Prince Philip and the fairies made such an impression on me!  I loved how strong and brave he was fighting the dragon.  (Unlike another prince that just goes around the kingdom finding a maiden that fits a slipper, but I digress)  I also loved his horse Samson and that got me thinking…. Why couldn’t Prince Philip be calling at the castle?  So that’s what I did.  If you look close at the entrance, you will see his red cloak as he enters the castle.  And wasn’t he kind to leave Samson on the hill, to let him graze on the delicious grass?

This has always been one of my favorite Disney films, and will always be one since it is so nostalgic to me.

Since this is the finale, this is a large one, 36″ wide by 24″ tall, with painted sides.
