Why you do indeed need an author page in your book.

You have written a book! Yay! And you are probably hooked on creating them and will eventually do another. And maybe another…

So do you add an author page to your book? You don’t have to add one, but I highly suggest you do.

I remember being a young reader myself, finishing a book and seeing a page with other books that the author had written. It was so exciting to see that there were more adventures to read!

This last page is free advertising for you. And it is an easy way to get your book or books out there!

So what do you put on your author page besides books? Because seeing this may be your first book you don’t have other books to promote. So why would you need one? Well there are a few reasons…

To thank the reader

I use my author page to thank the reader. Because I am quite grateful that they read my book. Whether they got it at a library, a friend or amazon, I truly hope that they enjoyed it, and I want them to know that I am grateful. Besides thanking them, I also typically have the subject or a character from my book saying thank you somehow.

Tell them your website

This is also a great place to put your website, so they can see what you are up to. Are you writing another book? Creating new illustrations or art? Whatever you are doing, this is the place to tell your information. Maybe even add a QR code, for your website, to make it even easier to find you.

Give an email address

I would suggest listing an email address too! This way they can contact you directly. I have had a few people contact me this way, and it is wonderful! Thankfully it is usually to tell me they enjoy a book, but I have also been contacted about book issues through amazon. When there was an issue with the book, I reminded them to return it for a correct version. I do have to add if you list an email address, I highly recommend not giving your personal email. I would make a new one up to list in your books, and even on your website. I get tons of spam sadly, and have to weed through them all to get to any legit emails. So do yourself a favor and keep your email private so you don’t become overwhelmed.

List your books

And lastly, list your other books! If you have none, maybe mention one that you plan to write. Either way this last page is a cheap way to get your brand, books and website out to possible customers and followers!

I find it always great to see an example of something you are working on, so here is my own author page for an ebook of Old Red. My actual author page for my physical books has a lot more, but this is a smaller size, and I can only fit so many.

In case you are wondering, if they go to my website, that is where my email is listed. It is in my physical books, but not my ebooks.

So that is it! I hope I have given you some ideas for your own author page. Make it your own and add whatever you like… just don’t be wordy. You don’t want to bore the reader. They don’t care how much schooling you have had, etc. Be short and sweet.

Good luck, and as always reach out if you have any questions!
