Day 18- Stargazer in jar

Day 18 of the painting challenge…

Day 18 of the 30 in 30.   This was inspired by a stargazer from my yard.  These flowers are some of my favorites, as they are stunning to look at and have the added bonus of smelling heavenly.  I love to paint them, and always include one in my painting challenges.  This is a gallery type canvas, meaning the sides are painted also, so it needs no frame.

Day 17- Patriotic Front

Day 17 of the painting challenge…

Day 17 of the 30 in 30.   This was inspired from a pic I took of a local house in my town.  I just happened to see it, and enjoyed the patriotic display.  So I snapped a photo to paint it later. If you know me, I love to paint our flag.

That’s one of the nice things about phones, having a camera conveniently available.  I have over 10,000 pics on my phone.  Yes, you read that correctly.  I am now in the process of trying to figure out how to organize them.

Day 15 Shippee Homestead

Day 15 of the painting challenge…

Day 15 of the 30 in 30.   This is a commission I have been working on of a local home.  This is the final one of three that I have done for this collector.  She has been very generous and has been purchasing them for her family members.  So thoughtful of her!

This painting has lots of details. Grandpa’s initials and milk can, Dad’s truck, Mom’s roses, and so many other moments only visible to the recipient.  That’s what can be magical about art…. the memories it can evoke.

Thank you to Jane for entrusting me to capture your memories.

Day 14- Triad

Day 14 of the painting challenge…

Day 14 of the 30 in 30.   This was inspired from a pic I took while visiting Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and gardens in Deerfield, Massachusetts. Yes, I know this painting is not of butterflies…. In addition to incredible flowers and butterflies, they also have fish ponds.  This Conservatory is worth a visit, it even has a “nursery” for butterflies. This is an area where they hang the cocoons and if your lucky, you may see one hatch!

There are incredible exotic flowers blooming everywhere, and pretty birds live here as well.  But of course its the butterflies that take center stage.  We have had them land on us many times, and it takes practice not to swat at them.  This of course is discouraged. This incredible place is just down the road from the Yankee Candle factory store.

So while I was there I took a pic of some of the fish ponds, as I have always wanted to paint some fish! Here are three fish enjoying the warm conservatory and pretty surroundings.

Day 13- Gertie

Day 13 of the painting challenge…

gertie.jpgDay 13 of the 30 in 30.   This was inspired from a pic I took while visiting Hollywood studios.  Or if you are like me, MGM Studios.  I don’t think I will ever call it anything else.

I had taken a cute pic of my daughter near it, and I loved the flowers and boat framing her.  The hat was still there too!  I also have a hidden mickey if you like to look for those.

This has a pretty bow for hanging, photos of it are in the listing in my etsy shoppe.  Link is below the image.

Day 12 The perch

Day 12 of the painting challenge…

The perch

Day 12 of the 30 in 30.   This is an abandoned chair that I pass on the way to my daughters school. It got me thinking as I always do when I see old cars, furniture or homes. At one time this item was brand new. It was picked out excitedly in a store, and brought home and enjoyed. It served its use for years and then one day was no longer pretty or useful. So it has been discarded and is now sitting outside and has a new use. Maybe a cat will come along and take a nap. Or a mouse will take some of the filling spilling out for its home.
Or a family member will visit in the form of a cardinal and remember it in its glory days.
These are all things I think when I see a beat up old car or home. It was new once and someone was proud to have it.
So this painting is giving this chair a chance to become someone’s art. And show us that there is beauty in something old and well loved.

Day 11- Tucker in Florida

Day 11 of the painting challenge…

Tucker waiting.jpgDay 11 of the 30 in 30.   This was inspired when my girlfriend in Florida posted her daughters pic of their dog watching them leave.  I am thinking a lot about her and my other friends and family in Florida hoping they and their homes are ok.

Tucker waiting-sm.jpg

Tucker is a dog they found in their neighborhood, he had gotten loose and when they found the owners, they asked if they wanted to keep him.  So they did.  I am happy that Tucker found a family that loves him and his story has a happy ending.  So here is Tucker watching his loved ones leave, and hopefully he knows he has found his forever home.  Isn’t it wonderful how our animals love us so unconditionally?

I hope Tucker and all the other animals and humans fare well through Irma!
